On the occasion of Diwali, two big movies clashed. Karan Johar’s highly controversial Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s action-packed Shivaay were released on October 28, 2016. Being a festive weekend, these three days were highly crucial to estimate how well the movies would earn in the upcoming days. The verdict is finally out! It seems like our Bollywood viewers have finally chosen their favourite movie amongst the two. It is none other than Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
Before the release, Karan Johar faced immense tension regarding its release as MNS and cinema exhibitors were threatening to boycott the movie. After a long period of suffering, Karan Johar’s movie could finally see the light. Bollywood viewers have showered the movie with immense love and adoration, as it’s receiving good reviews not only from critics but from audience as well.
Shivaay had huge buzz before its release. People were excited to see a movie made at the level of Hollywood. But the final product couldn’t live up to people’s expectations. Due to a weak storyline and stretched screenplay, the movie has failed to attract audience.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil defeated Shivaay in the first day collection. ADHM earned 13.30 crore while Shivaay settled for 10.24 crore. Both the movies faced a marginal drop in the figures by Saturday, but it is negligible. These figures are astonishing considering the amount of people that were in favour of boycotting any movie with a Pakistani actor working in it. But Indians have shown that their hearts are bigger than the terrorism sponsored by a particular country. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is accepted by Indians with open arms. The current collections for both the movies are as follows.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil:
Friday Collection: 13.30 crore
Saturday Collection: 13.10 crore
Sunday Collection (Estimated): 13.50 crore
Friday Collection: 10.24 crore
Saturday Collection: 10.06 crore
Sunday Collection (Estimated): 11 crore
It seems like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil might defeat Shivaay in the race of collection, as it’s receiving a good word-of-mouth publicity along with favourable reviews. Moreover, it has received a high amount of publicity due to the controversy it was stuck in. Both of these factors are really dangerous for Shivaay’s growth, as the only USP of this movie is its good action sequences.
Box Office is an unpredictable phenomenon. It has seen even the most publicised movies getting flopped while the underdogs turn out to be the winner. Just like it was unexpected that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil would beat Shivaay in the first weekend, we can never be sure of what will happen next.
You can buy your tickets and go out to watch a movie as per your preference without getting influenced by a few numbers. In the upcoming weeks, we will finally get to know which big budget movie has emerged as the Box Office king.
Till then, stay tuned!
