Lots of Sequels are lined up to be released this month. Due to the grand success of the predecessors, the success of the sequels seems inevitable. But that’s not always the case. Time and again, it’s been proved that Indian audience is not easy to please. Various predecessors increase the expectations to such high levels that it becomes hard for the sequels to match up. It is the reason that many directors are scared to make sequels and leave the original movies as they are. Wise decision, indeed. Here is a list of Bollywood sequels that didn’t work.
1. Jism 2
As John Abraham and Bipasha Basu took the level of sexiness a notch higher with Jism, its sequel couldn’t recreate the same magic on screen. Even though the sequel had infamous Sunny Leone as its lead actress, the movie was not at par with its predecessor. People still went to theatres to watch this overly hyped movie, but the end result disappointed everyone.
2. Jannat 2
Jannat gained a cult following due its storyline and Emraan Hashmi’s acting. The movie became instantly famous among the youngsters, and it led to huge business. But Jannat 2 failed to match up with its predecessor’s success. Even though the songs were hit, the movie couldn’t provoke the same kind of emotions inside us as the first movie. It would have been better if the Bhatt camp didn’t make its sequel and let the original movie remain intact in our mind.
3. Yamla Pagla Deewana 2
Yamla Pagla Deewana was a surprise hit. It raised the confidence level of the director who decided to make its sequel. Unfortunately, its sequel couldn’t attract any audience. Despite the fact that it brought Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol back on the screen together, audience was not really keen to watch an insensible comedy movie.
4. Phir Hera Pheri
Hera Pheri is a classic. We still remember its each and every dialogue by heart. Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal caused a laughter riot through their first movie, but they failed to be hilarious in the sequel. When the movie is as great as Hera Pheri, the best decision is to just let it be if you can’t come up with better jokes. Unfortunately, the director had to create the sequel and ruin our memories forever. The sequel didn’t have one good joke and everything seemed forceful. There was too much clutter on the screen, and the storyline was not coherent enough.
5. Race 2
Race was an absolute thriller. The movie had us on the edge of our seats, as we tried to figure out who is the liar, as everyone acted shady. Abbas-Mastan failed to create the same kind of thrill and action in its sequel. Despite the fact that it was made on a higher budget and was able to earn a lot on the box office, Race 2 failed to impress the audience and became a forgettable sequel.
