Many tourists are scared of heading towards Kashmir due to the incessant terrorism that occurs in the valley. But the fear has caused many people to miss the beauty that Kashmir has got to offer. Be it the snow-capped mountains or the vast green lands, Kashmir is beautiful from each angle and is rightly called the ‘Heaven on Earth’. But thanks to a few Bollywood movies, we have got to see Kashmir closely. A few directors and actors have dared to venture into this territory and get the perfect scenes. And the scenes are worth the efforts! Here are a few Bollywood movies set in the gorgeous Kashmir.
Vishal Bhardwaj steered away from the tourist spots and took us to the lanes and streets of Kashmir–close to the Kashmiri people. Haider is one of those few movies which managed to make us feel like we are in the valley.
The character of Nargis Fakhri was a Kashmiri in the movie. A section of the movie was shot in Kashmir. Ranbir Kapoor rode his bike amidst the snow-cladded roads, and there were some breathtaking views of the valley. In fact, the marriage sequence showed the Kashmiri marriage in all its glory.
Another Imtiaz Ali movie, Highway, was also shot in Kashmir. Faraway places like Aru Valley and Pahalgam were covered. It certainly made Kashmir appear like a tranquil land like it’s supposed to be.
Major sections of the movie has been shot in the scenic Ladakh. The widespread barred lands, mammoth mountains and the peculiar ambiance of Ladakh is well-depicted as the backdrop of some of its songs. The movie is a visual treat for everyone.
Kashmir is one of the most charming parts of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Various places of Sonmarg like Thajiwas Glacier and Zojila Pass have been covered in the movie. The grand views of the mountains in Kashmir hypnotizes us and keep us hooked to the movie till the end.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan
As Shahrukh Khan’s intense voice narrates the soul-stirring poem in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, he is seen riding his bike on the clear roads of Ladakh. In fact, shots of Pangong Lake and various other places of Ladakh has been covered heavily in the movie. Late Yash Chopra’s vision brought out the best of Kashmir on the silver screen.
A stern Shammi Kapoor meets the bubbly Saira Banu in the valley of Kashmir and falls in love. The white landscape of Kashmir added the much-needed romance in the movie.
The turbulence of valley was set as the backdrop of the movie, but the landscapes of Kashmir were tranquil. Mani Ratnam has always loved setting his movies in Kashmir and to show a ray of love amidst the chaos.
Kashmir Ki Kali
Kashmir Ki Kali, as the name suggests, has a huge influence of Kashmir. Set in the scenic valley, the movie unfolds like the usual movies, but what makes it different is Kashmir. That’s the beauty of this state. It makes the ordinary look extraordinary.
The climax scene of 3 idiots is shot near the infamous Pangong lake. We think that setting the climax in Kashmir certainly enhanced the impact of the movie, as the movie kept us captivated till the end.
