Whenever someone says ‘Bollywood’, the first thing that pops up in your mind must be ‘dance numbers’. Songs and dance have always been an integral part of Bollywood, but some Bollywood movies are much more than that. Here is a list of Bollywood movies that are at par with Hollywood.

1. Gangs of Wasseypur

Gore, guns and entertainment—these three words describe Gangs of Wasseypur perfectly. This Indian crime film is a raw and brutal depiction of Indian Politics. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Manoj Bajpayee were outstanding in their roles. Even the supporting characters have become memorable. People can still recite its dialogues at the drop of hat.


2. 3 Idiots

3 idiots is one of the favourite movies of youngsters because of its funny yet honest depiction of Indian Education system. Aamir Khan indeed looked like a young college boy in the movie. It has the perfect mixture of inspiration, entertainment and a logical storyline which makes it as good as any Hollywood movie.


3. Swades

Swades is considered as one of the best movies of Shahrukh Khan as well as Bollywood till this date. The movie is a story of a project manager, Mohan Bhargava, at NASA and how his return to his village changes the track of his life. This movie has gained a cult following among the audience despite not doing well on the box office.


4. Mughal-E-Azam

Mughal-E-Azam was a movie ahead of its time. The love story of Anarkali and Saleem became a timeless piece of art. Madhubala made us fall in love with her expressions and dance moves. From the majestic sets to the epic battle scenes, Mughal-E-Azam can give a strict competition to any Hollywood movie.


5. A Wednesday

Drama thriller, A Wednesday, was a sleeper hit at the box office despite being made at a small budget. Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah are two such senior actors who can bring alive any role they are asked to play.


6. Baby

Akshay Kumar’s Baby hardly had any song—quite different from what the Bollywood lovers are familiar with. But it doesn’t take away the thrill and excitement from the movie. Baby has perfect action scenes and a realistic storyline to keep you on the edge of your seat.


7. Taare Zameen Par

Taare Zameen Par has made a place in the heart of the viewers due its innocence. It deals with the topic of dyslexia, and Darsheel Safary nailed the role. The storyline is not only emotional but inspiring as well. We cannot find a single flaw with the movie.


8. Queen

Queen is made on a low budget, but the movie is still outstanding. Kangana Ranaut lives the role of Rani throughout the movie. It is a movie that empowers not only women, but men can take away a lot of good lessons, too.


9. The Lunchbox

The Lunchbox is an underrated movie, starring Irrfan Khan and Nimrat Kaur as the lead pair. The best love stories don’t have to be grand, but can be as simple as The Lunchbox. You get consumed in the movie and root for the protagonists to be together till the end.


10. Chak De! India

Chak De! India is one of the best sports movies of Bollywood. Shahrukh Khan played the role of coach Kabir Khan with perfection. The matches were picturized in such a fine way that despite having a hint regarding how the movie would end, you will still grip your seat and cheer for Indian Women Hockey Team.
